Forever Lima-Time!

On the day of Jose Lima's passing, DudeSpin pauses to remember one of the most charismatic figures ever to don an Astros uniform and a first ballot Dude Committee Hall of Famer. You will be missed Jose - for baffling hitters with your assortment of junk during the height of baseball's steroid era, for your dancing on the mound, and for bringing delight into the lives of the Dudes.

Thad looking good

Thaddeus Lewis, not surprisingly, looked good in Rams mini-camp; but surprisingly, he seems content to be Sam Bradford's backup. Sam, you can either back Thad, or back off.

ANOTHER QB Controversy Brewing?

Although most Rams fans may think the squad has solved its QB woes with its acquisitions this weekend, they are only half right. True, they selected Sam Bradford No. 1 overall - but those in the know realize that the Rams picked up their QB of the future after the draft - by signing Airborne legend Thad Lewis as a free agent. Rams fans - it will only be a matter of time - but get used to the combination of Thad Lewis to Donnie Avery for the near future.

QB Controversy Brewing?

It's usually ill-advised for fans to take too much away from the Spring Game, other than memories of another beautiful spring day in Durham - but do we have another QB controversy on our hands? That's likely the question lingering for those of us who read the game recaps on GoDuke (rather than Undude's much more detailed wrap-ups on DudeSpin - which for one reason or another - has not yet been posted). Sean Schroeder's 4-for-20 performance did not exactly inspire confidence in his abilities; and who knows how Sean Renfree will recover from offseason knee surgery. But 1 bright spot that emerged was certainly the performance of freshman Brandon Connette, who evoked memories of Zach Asack with a 13 rush, 94 yard performance.

Scottie Still in Steel City

Students, apparently outraged at Scottie's departure, have turned to burning benches to get the attention of the athletic department.

Scottie to Steel City

Duke legend and current receivers coach Scottie Montgomery is headed north, where he was named the new receivers coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes just became a bit more dangerous...

I hope all the Dudes join me in sending off Scottie with plenty of love. Along with Spencer Romine, he's the man who truly put the air in Airborne, and added a lot of style to the Duke lockerroom. I'll remember him fighting off tears after his last home game (which began with a kickoff return for a TD), and I'll remember jumping up and down on my couch listening to the '99 Duke-UVa game. On the last play he picked up a fumble, threw toward Romine, and Richmond Flowers grabbed it for the game-tying, miracle TD. My three favorite players involved in one crazy TD which ultimately led to Carl Franks' first win. And the rest, as they say, was history.
