Is The Dude secretly writing for Page 2?

I would hope The Dude would inform the rest of the Committee if he accepted an offer from ESPN.com and started penning NBA pieces under the name "Bill Simmons." But perhaps his contract prevents him from doing so. In any case check out the NBA Preview Pt. II and scroll down to item 24. That gigantic man-crush on Yao and the Rockets sure smells suspiciously like the Asian Prince to me!

Frankly, I've always felt that the Sports Guy would be funnier if Undude was the Sports Guy and Weitao was his comic foil. The real Sports Guy's references to friends are never that funny, and certainly a nation of ESPNers would enjoy the antics of our Prince.

He just calls Yao one of the 12 best players in the league. I don't think that's stretching it, given that Yao is one of the top 5 most dominant players on the offensive end.

The list of players who are definitely better than Yao is not a long one: LeBron, Kobe, Wade, Dirk, Marion. Then I think you can make an argument for Yao to be included with everyone in the next tier, e.g., Brand, KG, Nash, Arenas, etc.

Yeah, but my problem with that is this: you can make that argument about Yao based on parts of last season and the first two games (but not the third) of this season. He needs to put together a complete dominant season before I'd put him in the conversation with KG, Brand, Nash, etc. Not to mention old "second fiddle."

Yao is the best center in the NBA, I don't think there's any debate about that. But in the current league climate, that's like saying I'm the best of the Dudes at attacking the rim in Dude Basketball.

Also, Marion doesn't belong in that top tier! He's a stat machine and an excellent basketball player, but the other guys at the top can carry their teams. I don't think The Matrix could do that. Imagine the Suns with no Nash or Amare where Barbosa and Diaw were running around running plays for Marion. That sounds like a sub-.500 team to me.

Yikes, I didn't notice Marion's name until I saw Tylwalk's post. He's definitely not top-5, or even top-15. He may be the Suns' fourth-most important player!
