What Streak???

Bringing back an old Sportswrap feature, the Dude Committee proudly honors its Athlete of the Week for the week ending in 12/4/06. The winner: the magnificent Gilbert Arenas. "Captain Zero" Arenas poured in 38 with 8 dimes in leading his 7-10 Wizards over those hated Mavericks, ending that Mavs' win streak we've heard so much about.

Gilbert Arenas, for performing some wizardry on the Mavs' win streak, you are the Dude Committee's Athlete of the Week

Dude, last time I checked the Dude Committee doesn't consist of one member who unilaterally declares little girls like Arenas as legends.
Your unhealthy obsession with cheering against the Cowboys and Mavs is starting to become a mental health issue.
And after the Rangers lock down Zito and have their first formidable rotation in 35 years, I worry you're just going to add them to your list and continue to unravel.
Take a deep breath dude, it's a long NBA season. I know most Rockets fans think the season ends in early April, but we've got a long way to go.

And I like how somehow your "week" ends Monday. I get the feeling if the Mavs and Wizards had played tonight, your week would've ended today.

If the Rangers get Zito, it'll be their first big FA pitching acquisition since Chan Ho... I hope Zito would work out better for you than that particular Dude Committee favorite, but I doubt it...

There's nothing illogical about ending the week after Monday Night Football...

I hope all the Committee members have their Saints gear ready to go for next week....

The Saints... Are Comin'!!
The Saints... Are Comin'!!
The Saints... Are Comin'!!

Weitao, how about this? If the Cowboys host a playoff game, you fly up here for the weekend and we attend together? My treat. I can imagine nothing better than you stewing in Texas Stadium as the Cowboys advance to the NFC title game.

Wait, is head dude really telling Weitao that it's a long NBA season? Joel, who has posted an update on every freaking meaningless Mavs win this past month?

I hate to side with Vic, but once again, Joel's ego has blinded him to the truth.

Wait a second! Suddenly the Undude starts talking smack about the Mavs?! I realize every Celtics' game this season is meaningless, but this was unexpected. And yes, ever since the Mavs' winning streak reached 9 or 10, I admittedly have gotten excited and made note of each win. But now that it's over, you won't hear from me about the Mavs unless something big happens, like them winning another 10 in a row, or T-Mac and/or Yao suffering their annual season-ending injury. Or JB repeating his prediction that the Mavs will win the title.

Whoa!!! Head Dude, stop the unnecessay attacks on Neal's Celtics. Like your beloved Mavericks, the Celtics are not leading the division. Like your beloved Mavericks, the Celtics sit less than 2 games back of the division leader. I would hesitate to say that every Celtics' game is meaningless.

Where did I talk smack about the Mavs? I think the Mavs are a fine team. I mean, I stopped watching the Finals last year with about 10 minutes to go in game three, but I just assume they're the reigning NBA champs. And I would never insult a proven champion.

No, my insults were not directed at the Mavs; they were squarely aimed at Joel's hypocricy.

Look dude, your backhanded compliments may fly over the heads of high schoolers, but when you've got a gold star, you miss nothing!

On another note, apparently both Chicago and Boston newspapers discussed a few days ago a rumored 3-way trade where the Rangers send Michael Young to Boston and get both Manny and Mark Buehrle in return. I'd do that in a Beijing minute -- a rotation of Millwood, Zito, Buehrle, and Padilla would almost be too much for the locals to handle.

And, um, good luck on that $14 mil/year going to JD Drew. He'll hold up well under the Fenway lights.

ThadisRad said...

I would prefer it if this blog focused on Dallas sports and ignored the JD Drew signing. I kept on hoping it would fall through, but alas...

Head Dude said...

You realize that if Boston signs Matsuzuke for about $15 million/year on top of the signing fee, that means just next year they'll be paying an oft-injured head case and a Japanese star whose never pitched in the U.S. a combined 80 million!

ThadisRad said...

I am aware of the situation.

Head Dude said...

Wow, and now another $9 million to an average-at-best shortstop Weitao once dubbed a "Poor Man's A-Rod." So Drew + Matsuzake + Lugo = $89 million!
That's more than the payroll for about 25 teams.

Many thanks to the BoSox for taking the attention of this blog away from the Carlos Lee signing and the tiresome "Lee is fat" posts!
