Early observation, we're trapping too much on defense that it's hurting our defensive rebounding. But most importantly, we have to score in transition in this game; otherwise, it's going to be a long day for us in the halfcourt
yeah, not much movement on offense. this being the first game i've seen all year, not sure if that's normal.but it's good to see big bad bales patrolling the paint.
But I like that Lindsay is pushing the ball on every missed shot, that has got to be sustained the entire game... What's with the sea of blue in the stands??? Must be another ingenuous Yak attack!!
while it's on my mind, can i make a separate rant about Michelle Wie? why is she still allowed to play in PGA tournaments? she finishes in the bottom five every tournament, and then claims to be "close" to playing good golf. i agree with those who say she needs to dominate the women's tour first, and last time i checked, she hasn't won a major.this irritates me.
those shirts were definitely a free yak-inspired handout. i like how gail just said these types of sold-out games are why players come to duke -- that's a bit of an overstatement, but certainly truer than it was 10 years ago.
We are getting much better looks in transition than we're getting in the halfcourt... And boy, they are not wasting any time calling tie-ups
Stop hating on Asians Joel...Michelle Wie is pretty darn close to turn her outings from a novelty to a freak show
how about Abby taking the three from Redick-esque range!!! That's what I like about her, no fear!
The novelty has worn off, that's my point. And she just isn't good enough.I forgot about Shay Doron -- isn't she a Hebrew?
No dude, i don't like Waner taking a foolish shot like that. Fearless is driving the point, shooting from 25 means you don't have the sense to move forward 6 feet for the same price.
Well Dudes, it's no dinner at Damons, but I'm here!
But if I were truly a dude, I would be wearing a blue Yak shirt in Cameron. But alas...
Wow, this almost makes up for it. I'm stunned.
Removing the Chinaman, do you agree with my comments about Wie?
Lindsay looks so much better this year. She looks remarkable thus far!
I mean, I don't mind tournaments and Wie trying to make as much money as possible, and surely Team Corporate must agree, but she is getting to the point where she is embarrassing herself. Time to retool and come back in a few years.
Dudes, I agree with Joel about Wie. It has become a freak show
Sorry dude, I misread your post. The other Waner hit a three?!I gotta say, for a woman's game, this is pretty high-level. Some strong and tough athletes out there.
I think that's the first time I've ever seen emily waner make a shot!!!
If I actually watch this game, I might set all sorts of records for TV viewing in a single weekend. I mean, I want to watch 3 of the 4 NFL games (and may watch the bears anyway), and I don't usually schedule women's hoops into my schedule.
it's an epic weekend for sure. i'm glad elizabeth's in florida. to be honest, i have much less interest in the nfc games than the afc, and i've never felt that way before. but those two matchups are just too good.
Strange how Tolliver can't hit the ocean now, but again, she hit the most meaningful shot in the history of women's hoops when it mattered.
Lindsay has got to start converting some of her "blow-by"s!! (Billy Packer influence??) She is taking her defender off the dribble at will!
most meaningful shot in the history of women's hoops? for duke, yes, for women's hoops, no way.remember, both stanford and unc have championship winning shots at the buzzer. those have to rank higher because it's more meaningful to turn a loss into a win, than a loss into overtime.
I think Saints-Eagles will be fun, if only because I'm like every other bandwagoner Saints fan... Hey, I'm not actually going to do anything to help New Orleans, but I'll root for their team. That will ease my liberal guilt! But the AFC lineup is awesome... Plus, not to sound too much like Simmons, but I'm a 24 addict, and that's on for four hours this weekend.
I bet Brody is stewing that Brenda Frese can get a book about ACC women's hoops published, but he can't
I miss the dude's crazy use of hyperbole!
Now that I have NBA League Pass, I just don't watch any shows. Why watch fictionalized drama when you can watch the NBA real life drama, every single night!!
hahaha... anyone know brody's wherabouts?
you think i can start watching 24 in season 6 and still get into it? i hear too much good about it, but have never watched.duke is wasting multiple opportunities to build a working margin.
weitao, just don't brag about that fact with girls. they won't be impressed.
Joel, you're right; this is some high quality women's hoops action. So many times, in big games, the play is sloppy, the shooting is poor, but today, wow!!
I'm not into anything other than football right now... I never really do too much NBA, and our general suckiness in hoops is making it hard for me to get too excited. I mean, I watchh every game, but I'm just not devoting the extra time to thinking about them.I've still got Brady on my mind. In an interview today he was wearing a Sox hat. I don't think anything could be sexier!
Will G not get her "dear-in-headlights" look? And Joel, i wouldn't watch 24 this season. Start renting season 1... you'll be hooked by the end of the first disk.
Maryland is missing some wide open 3s, this game should amp up the frenzy meter when Maryland starts making those!!
After law school, Brody moved to DC with his girlfriend because he didn't have a job; no idea what he's doing these days.
weitao, i think the crowd also helps make the game seem better. and maryland hoisting threes is fun to watch.regarding the men, neal's right. i watch every game, and will obviously continue to do so. but i bounce back from a loss in about 7 seconds, and just am not as emotionally invested this year, partly because we can't expect as much, and partly because going to 20 mavs games and watching most of the others has made them my bigger focus for the spring. to me, the goal is only to reach the sweet 16 and keep their streak alive. that would make it a great season.
Anyone planning to watch the Cowboys-Bears playoff game this weekend?
BREAKING NEWSBig Play is engaged. To a 4-foot-8, extremely quiet Jewish chick. She was a year or two ahead of me at duke -- i think Tammy is her mom.No Kathy Sell or Megan Miller.
Sorry, I mean Tammy is her name, not her mom.
Yeah, after the Tech game, I just kind of shrugged my shoulders and thought, well, that sucks, but we're just not that good. And like that, I recovered.
It's a shame the Texans lost their first round game to the Patriots last weekend.
Lindsay is seriously getting layups at will!!! Reminiscent of Jason Williams (the motorcyclist) in his prime!
WOW!!! That is some Big news on Big Play... Does he become an honorary Jew now? You can have him!
They don't have as many tv timeouts in the women's game. I guess no one will pay to advertise.
Does said 4-8 Jewish girl have an olfactory sense?
I'm not sure if he becomes a tribesman, but his children automatically will! It could do more to set our people back than Adolf H.
I have a duke interview coming up, and he's a one-star tailback on scout.com... I feel a lot of pressure on this one. What does Ted Roof want me to do?
Little Hollomans, very scary... Hey, does anyone know anything about Tylwalk and a new job? Has he become a suit?
i should hope we're leaving the one-star recruits alone. but he can certainly be the featured back in his freshman dorm's flag football team.
It's always strange seeing G interviewed in a "real" setting, as opposed to talking to hacks from The Chronicle. Granted, not nearly as starnge as seeing Mike Pressler on TV, but pretty strange.
No further info from Tylwalk.Weitao, can you tell Neal and I what's been going on in the first half?
We haven't offered him anything, he's just a normal guy trying to get in. I'll ask him if he intends to walk on, and if so, I'll decide if he's worthy of the fine tradition.
That doctor just talked about the journey!
That was the same doc who worked with Georgia Schweitzer
Georgia's married, by the way. I saw her name in blue devil weekly and there was a new last name after Schweitzer. She gets married, G gets divorced. Circle of life.
I had to interview some candidate who is the top player on his varsity golf team; I got the chance to drop in a Dan Brooks and Rod Meyers reference in my interview... Never thought that would happen... Of course, he was another normal dude trying to get in...
Yeah, I read the same article about Schweitzer, the writer kept using her new last name in the story. I was, like, c'mon, to Journey fans, she'll always be GSchweitz, not G(whatever her new last name is)
that reminds me i have 4 interviews to set up. only one asian this year -- last year i had three. none got in, though i raved about one.
I'm interviewing a black student who lives in the poorest part of Houston. I almost feel like I'm going to give him a 5 regardless of what he says; given that Duke is going to have a hard time attracting black students in the wake of last spring
I would be curious to see final application numbers and demographics this year.
Joel, when you were raving about your Asian, did you mention to the admissions office that you had a gold star and changed Duke forever? Perhaps they didn't realize who they were ignoring...
yeah dude, you gotta give that brother a 5. i couldn't get my cousin in two years ago, so i have little clout. i think there'll still be resentment amongst some applicants (not necessarily just blacks), because some may think it's a matter of the players having better lawyers.
dumb shot by waner
it's a little strange to check the men's scores, see that ohio state is losing and florida is in a close game, and realize that those games have absolutely no affect on our ranking. what's better for us is #21 west virginia is losing to marquette!
What's Duke's fascination with lemurs??
Wow, Joel, I hadn't thought about it that way... sigh.
I think as Vision fans this year, we should really have no concern with what other teams are doing. What we need to happen is for our taem to start to execute offensively better, and that has got to start with either a rejuvenated Greg Paulus, or the Jew
i visited the primate center once for a baa class -- lemurs are awesome!
The Jew is not the problem... That QB disguised as a point guard is the problem. And McRoberts is driving me crazy.I ahve never been to the primate center... I keep putting it off. But, I vow to do it someday.
I'm reminded of the secrecy of college athletics, we still have no idea why Lindsay was suspended for an entire season. But it's very refreshing to see that she has come back with a vengeance!!!
i think i'm more sensitive to the imbalance between lawyers because i've been on the corporate side. as weitao can tell us from his current experience, it sucks. i almost took a race discrimination case two weeks ago, where two blacks were looking to replace their current lawyer and somehow found me. i couldn't take the case because someone at my firm is friends with their current lawyer, but in looking into the case you could just see the employer's well-heeled defense firm was patiently sitting back and waiting to bury them with resources.
We took our client for whom we had prevailed in an asylum case, and her family for a nice dinner last week. To get that case from the start, prepare the case, ultimately prevail, and realize that a 15 year old is about to get a chance to embark on her own journey as a legal U.S. resident, and eventually, a citizen, is the most gratifying experience so far in my professional career. I know Joel likes to harp on a lot about how I'm a corporate attorney, but the fact that my firm gives me the ability to bill 500 hours to pro bono in my 1st year is the thing that i appreciate the most about my firm. My firm's litigation associates also averaged around 250 hours of pro bono a piece last year
Big bad Bales with the touch from the FT line!!!
Man, I must say, Duke looks pretty good.
dude, i realize your arm is probably hurting right now from patting yourself on the back, but don't be so defensive -- i wasn't making fun of you there.most mega firms allow that sort of pro bono work -- mine has multiple associates doing over 1000 pro bono hours a year. but it's not the fundamental part of their business model, it's what they do to generate good publicity. associates beleive in the work they're doing, partners believe it'll give the firm a good name. they're still making hundreds of thousands off of the rest of your work.
This is the year!!There, i've proclaimed it!!!This is it!!!
500 hours of good? That's not bad, dude, not bad at all. perhaps you're not as evil as joel makes you out to be.But dude, you won't be winning my praise if you continue to let foreigners into my country.
remember, we beat maryland twice in the regular season last year, and handily at home if i recall. it's early.
Why would you proclaim something like that? I predict that Bales breaks her ankle this week.
Big Bad Bales!!!! With her and Lindsay graduating this year, we HAVE TO WIN NOW!!!
The Waner family has a habit of rushing 3s
When did Emily Waner become a rotation player?!?!? I must have missed that...
Every time I see a female athlete go down with an injury, I immediately think torn ACL because of Neal's story
take that tolliver! we'll make sure you can't hit a three this season!
This game is sortof getting me back into women's hoops... maybe I should go to a game or two this year.
I can't believe Neal is not on the Journey... If I lived within driving distance, I would definitely try to be at every single game!
I just realized that we are three grown men, watching women's basketball, while participating in a live blog about the game. Could we be bigger dorks?
This is the type of thing Rob C would do.
you should go to the unc game.i just checked to see what men's games are on here next, and was reminded i'm not in acc country anymore -- it's oklahoma state at nebraska, live from lincoln!
incredibly dorky. and it suggests some form of latent homosexuality.
I think if I had stayed in the area, I would have stayed on the journey... but during the years away, I strayed from the path. It's also hard to get motivated to go to games that noone you know wants to go to or talk about.
Obviously, the Dude Committee shares a bond because of, in part, the quirkiness of its members!!
I really don't know if our homosexuality can be described as latent anymore.
That Belle of the Ball thing was perhaps the most embarrassing graphic to ever run on television.
i suppose it would be gayer to do a live blog during a lifetime movie, but this is probably next. coming tonight: liveblog5, a hilarious episode of mad about you!
that graphic definitely wasn't a Matt Rosen creation!!
they did make a good point -- this was duke's sixth game against a ranked opponent, and maryland's second, so they clearly weren't ready for this type of game.
Did I just hear the band play "Crazy Right Now" by Beyonce!!
Wow, they're just pouring it on now.
they certainly seem to have no shame running up the score, but i guess why not.
Does it not hurt when you get a celebratory shove in the boob?
Wow!! That was a Tour De Force!!See ya later dudes!!!
thank you undude, for supplying the final insight!good luck to the texans this weekend!
Cleveland makes a rather bland host for a spring DudeMania
if only we could cancel the men's final four, we could go to vegas to watch the women's and not have it be too crowded.
Does K not have the clout to cancel Final Fours in years when he has no chance of going?
he's already booked for the cbs studio with special K.
I guess you're right... well, I have some essays I need to grade, so I will bid you farewell. Hopefully the next post will be a picture of Tomlinson getting crushed by a handful of Patriots...
