Elias Says...

"The Mavericks made history on Tuesday night -- not just team history, not just NBA history, but major North American pro sports history. With their 102-89 victory over the Nets, the Mavericks became the first team in NBA history to earn 51 wins in a 56-game span within a single season.
"No team in the NHL or in Major League Baseball has done such a thing, either. (And in the NFL, no team has ever amassed 51 wins over any multiple-season stretch of 56 regular-season games.)"

Just thought you'd want to know.

The Harlem Globetrotters would smoke the Mavericks in terms of records... I don't even remember the last time they lost to the Generals

That's a nice record, but as some of my favorite President's Trophy-winning Red Wings squads of years past could tell you, it doesn't mean too much if you don't go on to take the title...

There's no doubt about that -- this season is headed towards either becoming one of the all-time greats in league history, or becoming the first team to accomplish such feats in the regular season and not win the title. Which makes me nauseous.
