One streak comes to an end

DudeSpin would be remiss not to note that one NCAA postseason streak will, without much doubt, come to an end today - that of UConn men's basketball team's 5 straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies' 2006-07 season began badly and never got on track.

In times like these, I imagine that DudeSpin contributor Undude can only console himself by smiling at the memories of a shared champagne bottle with Khalid El-Amin, or a shared embrace with Richard Hamilton.

But for now, there's only shared disappointment.

Big Red and I will sit on our respective couches tonight, sipping from a glass of champagne, toasting one remarkable run...

U-C-O-N-N, UConn, UConn, UConn!
(sniffle, sniffle)

And all you Duke fans will know the pain of lost streaks next weekend!

I spoke with the Dude about this, but frankly I'm thrilled with our draw. I was expecting an 8-seed and a potential first-round exit or guaranteed second round loss. Now we really should reach the third round, which to me would make this year a success.
Enjoy the NIT, Big Red.

well, I wouldn't get too excited; every game is a potential loss for this team. But all things considered, our draw is as good as we could have hoped for.

With Duke, Md and Pitt all playing in scenic Buffalo, Jason and I think we'll make the 200-mile drive from the 'Burgh. Any of you big-money earners want to join us?

I've been to Buffalo twice now. That's plenty.

But I'm guessing you didn't mean me when you said "big-money earners."

I'll actually be in Manhattan during the day Thursday, and then assuming Duke gets the primetime tipoff, I'll be stepping on a plane to Tel Aviv about the same time Duke starts executing its first three-man weave in the halfcourt. Man I hate the weave.

Wow! A chance to go to Buffalo!! With the Sosteks!! I must pass however, as I will be in Vegas this weekend.

I'd love to go - I have family in Buffalo I could stay with too - but alas I'm also not one of the big-money earners in the Committee, plus I have something none of the other Dudes have yet: child care duties.

As you guys already know, ComplainInVain is generally far ahead of the sports curve. But you guys did beat us to the punch regarding UConn. But we have just posted our joy on the topic.

As for Duke, VCU has an excellent pg who came up huge in the CAA championship game. That scares me.

Lucky for us we have such a speedy pg... I hear in practice that not even Wojo can get past Paulus.

We're officially Buffalo-bound... got $50 per session tickets on EBay. Tylwalk, I think you should dress Beth in a baby-sized Peppi Browne uniform and bring her along. Oh, and compared to my household income (freeloading law student husband), you're all big money.
