Mark Cuban - Done Lost His Mind!!

DudeSpin favorite Mark Cuban is undoubtedly much smarter than any of us, but boy, even smart people have their moments of absurdity - to wit, Cubester's foray into starting a second professional football league to compete with the NFL.

I knew it was painful to lose to Baron Davis, I didn't know it would drive a man into insanity!

I don't know that insane is the right word. I'd agree that failure is much more likely than success, but if the league is able to get a few marquee players (unlike the XFL) and field teams in the other big markets in the U.S., starting with Vegas, who knows. I think unlike the XFL they're not going to try to be gimmicky. That's not to say I would watch a new league not involving the Cowboys, but for Cuban it's a low-cost investment given his cash supply.

I don't think we have even scratched the surface of demand for pro football in this country, as scary as that may sound. That being said, going up against the NFL is a bold move, but I think it may be possible for a second league to survive under the correct circumstances. We shall see...

I think he's insane... America loves football, but the fall belongs to the NFL. I think a league trying to get started needs to play in the spring/summer. Right now we have boring NBA playoffs, all but 4-5 cities have no shot at a World Series, so it seems like that's when we might turn to a new league. And yeah, no gimmicks.

Boring NBA playoffs? Just because you haven't been watching doesn't mean it's boring. Warriors-Mavs and Suns-Spurs were both spectacularly entertaining series, but they both take a backseat to the Cavs-Pistons series. LeBron's performance tonight will be talked about as one of the greatest in history for a long time.
