Rick Bucher lays out the 1st big ticket news item of the night, involving the Big Ticket. KG will not be moved this evening. And Minny fans continue to wring their hands at the certainty of Kevin McHale screwing up another pick. Hopefully, he won't try to sign the pick to a secret contract beforehand.

The Franchise said...

Interesting Seattle-Boston trade rumor. I think Ray Allen and Paul Pierce could be enough to contend in a weak East.

The Dude said...

Is Stephen A. ever happy? A great drinking game for a Mormon draft party would be this: drink once every time Stephen A. smiles.

The Dude said...

Quite Frankly, I think a combination of Paul Pierce and the Franchise might be enough to contend in a weak East.

Head Dude said...

I'm still at work, but relieved to hear the news of KG -- Nash + KG + Amare or Marion = bad news in Mavsland.

Head Dude said...

Dude, as long as you're waiting under the basket to the take the charge

The Dude said...

Kevin Durant - rocking a pink shirt for the NBA Draft... You could have taken some money from me on that proposition!

The Dude said...

Nice camera angle on the Joakim Noah interview - didn't see any of his face; but there was PLENTY of hair!!

The Franchise said...

I think I could score at least 4 points a game on the Celtics...

The Dude said...

Is Yi rocking a Chinese flag lapel pin? Nice!

And how much money did the All American Rejects get for having their song be the bumper music going into EVERY commercial break!!

The Franchise said...

I love Stern's smarmy reaction whenever fans boo something he says!

The Franchise said...

How about 30 seconds to make this pick... it's not that hard!

The Dude said...

Just think - David Stern was, at one point, a second year associate in a law firm... ahh... dreams!!

The Dude said...

Not quite sure why Portland is milking its alloted time - if you haven't figured it out by now ...

The Dude said...

Hilarious that Oden had a Trailblazers hat in his hand as they made the selection. Didn't need a hat from Stern!!

Nothing more hilarious than a roomful of white guys giving each other awkward high fives while dressed in suits and baseball hat.

The Franchise said...

I never heard of this Oden guy. Sounds like he may be pretty good...

The Franchise said...

The last Big 10 guy to go No. 1 overall was Glenn Robinson! Oden should want to aspire to something a little higher than that...

The Dude said...

Wow... Don't understand that trade from Boston's perspective. I thought they were rebuilding!! Smart move by Seattle here - probably get worse next year, but build with young talent and start contending once the Suns/Spurs/Mavericks start to get old.

The Franchise said...

SO far no surprises. Memphis has an interesting pick to make here...

The Franchise said...

This pick coming up would have been a lot more fun if not for the Ray Allen trade...

The Franchise said...

Danny Ainge trying anything to save his job. I do like the Sonics in like 3-4 years. Here's hoping they stay in Seattle.

The Dude said...

Uhh.. Did you see those rings on the hand of Jeff Green's mom??? I'm glad that Green's agent didn't advance the family any money.

The Franchise said...

Yi to the Bucks?

The Dude said...

Team Yi is frantically searching through the Milwaukee phone book for Chinese restaurants!

The Franchise said...

Well, that may be the NBA market with the LEAST Asian fans...

The Dude said...

Yi need to hit the training room a little bit! I'm guessing a few steaks might be in his diet.

The Franchise said...

No love for Corey Brewer so far...

The Dude said...

And team Yi quietly weeps...

The Franchise said...

Worst interview ever!!!

The Dude said...

This Yi interview is hilarity at its best!! No ESPN!! Make Stuart keeping asking questions!!

The Franchise said...

I like Brewer, but that doesn't seem to make much sense for the Wolves. Don't they need a big man for when they inevitably trade KG?

The Dude said...

There's love for Corey Brewer!! Congratulations Corey, you'll learn how to play defense and give maximum effort from Ricky Davis!!

The Franchise said...

By the way, I love those NBA Live commercials with Agent Zero and Durant!

The Dude said...

I find it impossible that a commercial with Agent Zero isn't funny. It would take an incredibly bad director for that to happen!

The Dude said...

Okafor, Wallace, Wright is going to be a phenomenally athletic front court. Strangely, the starting SG is still Matt Carroll!

The Franchise said...

Can the Bobcats just change their uniforms to match UNC's and get it over with?

Anonymous said...

Jordan's such a joke

The Dude said...

Is having Marvin Williams as a mentor is a good thing??? Shouldn't you pick someone who's had... oh I don't know ... success in the NBA!!

Grizzly said...

The Bobcats might be trying to start a new fad... UNC players bomb in the pros (as opposed to their Durham counterparts who have been quite successful lately).

The Dude said...

Isn't Joakim Noah and Tyrus Thomas the same player?!?!

The Franchise said...

No, that's a good pick for the Bulls. Their strategy involves boring people to death and scoring about 80 points a game, so they don't need anyone who can score...

The Dude said...

Not sure if I've ever seen "Bumble & Bumble" at the store... Must not be shopping at the right stores

The Dude said...

Whenever I hear "Our Country," I expect LaDanian Tomlinson to score a touchdown in the next five minutes.

The Franchise said...

Nice job Kings! Continue to spiral into suckiness!

The Franchise said...

By the way, I'd love for the Hawks to take Julian Wright with the next pick and then petition the NBA to allow them to start Joe Johnson and seven forwards next year...

The Dude said...

The Hawks would be a phenomenal team if you could only start players between 6'8" and 6'10".

The Dude said...

Stephen A! Calm down... eat some more cheese doodles... you might be the first person to ever get that excited about Spencer Hawes!

The Franchise said...

Wait, the Hawks actually picked someone they need? What just happened?

The Dude said...

I'm not sold on Acie IV. I don't see how he'll be that much of an upgrade over Tyronn Lue or Speedy Claxton. I would have gone with Crittendon there.

The Dude said...

That is one ugly jersey... I hope they didn't pay anyone to design that!

The Franchise said...

At least those new Hawks jerseys look a little better than the old ones.

The Franchise said...

No, the meaner-looking Hawk is cool!

The Franchise said...

Sixers have new jerseys too, apparently.

The Dude said...

Who goes to Philly to go to Burger King?!? Stephen A! Shake yourself!

The Franchise said...

Uh... I think the Sixers should have taken Thornton there. Not sure how Thaddeus fits in, and he may take time to develop.

The Dude said...

Oops!! I appear to have left out Thaddeus Young from my mock draft!!! Two scary wing athletes for Philly...

The Dude said...

Leaving out players make me feel like Kevin McHale!

The Franchise said...

But no low post scoring for the Sixers. A solid point guard, a couple of athletic wings and some defense-only big men... sounds like a poor man's Bulls team to me.

The Dude said...

This doesn't make a whole lotta sense to me. They already have David West, they still have no one at shooting guard!!

The Franchise said...

I like how Bilas described Julian Wright by saying "he can do everything except shoot it." I know what he was trying to say, but shooting is a pretty important skill for an NBA player!

The Franchise said...

That's a steal for the Clips, though they may have wanted Crittendon given that Cassell is ancient and Livingston is unlikely to be back any time soon.

The Dude said...

Corey Maggette is thinking... uh... huh?

The Franchise said...

I think Maggette is gone if they can find the right trade for him.

The Franchise said...

It's weird that a pick so far down the first round was predicted by so many, but EVERY mock draft had Stuckey going to the Pistons.

The Dude said...

Poor man's Dwayne Wade? It sounds like Bilas is working a ridiculously low poverty line!

The Franchise said...

Using that logic, just about every slightly undersized two-guard is a poor man's Dwyane Wade!

The Dude said...

It's surreal that players are now wearing uniform numbers to honor other players who were in elementary school when I first started watching the NBA!!

The Dude said...

That's a steal for the Wizards! Slipping player at a position of need - can't really plan it any better than that!

The Franchise said...

Oh yeah! Agent Zero and Nick Young together! I will watch all Wizards games in 2007-08!

The Franchise said...

Stephen A. didn't like that pick... figures!

The Dude said...

Uhh... Antawn Jamison?? Stephen A? Anyone home?

Head Dude said...

What's Up!!!!!!!!!

The Dude said...

HA! It doesn't sound like Nick and his brother has too many intellectual conversations.

The Franchise said...

Spike Lee loves that trade!

The Dude said...

Isn't Eddy Curry and Zach Randolph the same player? I'm not quite sure that's going to work out. Of course, Steve Francis is essentially useless in New York.

The Dude said...

Someone turn down the volume on Stephen A's mike!!!

The Franchise said...

High character pick for the Nets!

Head Dude said...

Dude, you know the Mavs are hoping for the Chinese Magic to slip to #34. I forget his name, but he averages double-figure assists in China and is dating a famouse Chinese model.

The Dude said...

what did the Warriors do in the playoffs? I don't remember

The Dude said...

Sun Yue. He's terrible

The Franchise said...

There are models in China? That's more surprising to me than the fact that there is a "Chinese Magic"...

Head Dude said...

Nellie strikes again!

The Dude said...

Speaking of models, I think Belinilli is dating a model.

The Dude said...

I love Nellie... He's already got Ellis, Richardson, Pietrus, Barnes and S. Jackson at the wing spots, but what's one more!!

The Franchise said...

I heard this year's crop of foreigners is weak. I can't wait until someone calls Tiago Splitter a poor man's Anderson Varejao!

ThadisRad said...

Dudes, I've now joined the Josh McRoberts watch... Though I fear I am way too early.

The Dude said...

Well, that was altogether too predictable that the Lake Show selects Crittendon. I imagine that the Lakers were surprised that Javaris fell this far.

The Dude said...

Undude!! I think my McRoberts at 30 is fairly on target - though Philly may take him at 21.

The Dude said...

Miami apparently continuing to stockpile white guys with generic names. Chris Quinn, Jason Williams, Jason Smith

The Dude said...

In other news, Biggio singles in the 5th for hit no. 2999.

ThadisRad said...

I must say the live blog is tough when you don't have TV to match the blog...

The Dude said...

Undude, I'm sure your students feel the same way when they're reading American literature without your expert commentary on the text.

The Dude said...

Why would Miami want Daequan Cook? Isn't there another SG at Miami? I hear he likes to contribute basketballs and Lexuses to youth basketball teams.

Head Dude said...

To be honest though Undude, you're not missing much on TV since this isn't on TNT.

Head Dude said...

If the Bobcats pick Reyshawn Terry, can Jordan get fired before the second round starts?

The Dude said...

I think Sean Williams is a no-brainer there - he's a lottery level talent were it not for the pot, and really, the number of NBA players who use pot regularly isn't insignificant.

Head Dude said...

We're saved -- no Dudley in San Antonio.

The Dude said...

Head Dude makes a great point. As much as I love Stephen A's antics; NBA studio coverage doesn't get any better than Ernie, Chucky and Kenny... I'd pay $5 for ESPN to put those three in a living room and broadcast the feed.

ThadisRad said...

Well, the Boston blogs are trashing the C's tonight... I liked this gem best: "Danny Ainge sucks the sweat off of a dead man's balls!"

The Dude said...

Surprisingly, the 3rd most predictable pick in the draft at no. 23. EVERY mock draft had Chandler going to the Knicks, including Spike Lee's apparently.

ThadisRad said...

Another favorite from boston.com: "I will not be surprised when Ainge steps to the podium to introduce Ray Allen and he grabs fistful of his thinning hair and pulls of his mask to reveal his true identity: Matt Millen"

The Dude said...

I'll say this - I'm looking forward to the Sports Guy column tomorrow. He should have something to say about Jesus Shuttlesworth

Head Dude said...

Why are they ripping Ray Allen? Were they that loyal to Wally? I guess Delonte West has potential, but wasn't Pierce going to demand a trade if nothing was done?

The Dude said...

Portland is going to be quite a team to watch next year - Roy, Fernandez, Rodriguez, Oden, Aldridge. The West is absolutely loaded

Jay said...

pop quit hot dude: When was the last white Duke alum to make the NBA-Allstar team.

Head Dude said...

which one of us is hot dude?

Head Dude said...

What say the Rockets?

The Dude said...

Ah... Finally, the Rockets' selection: one of the last two chances for McRoberts to be taken in the 1st round!

The Dude said...

Aren't we all hot dudes??

The Dude said...

But in response to Jay's question - Christian Laettner was a good pro for a long time.

Head Dude said...

Gee, Spanoulis must be crying that his 7 minutes per game just got taken.

The Dude said...

Aaron Brooks!?!? This pick makes absolutely no sense!!! Is he any better than John Lucas III?

Head Dude said...

Or Mike James, Rafer Alston, and Luther Head. Didn't they just give up Juwan and need a power forward?

The Dude said...

I'm very perplexed at this decision by Daryl Morey... But No. 3000 for Craig Biggio!!!

The Dude said...

The Josh McRoberts watch continues. He is on the verge of falling into the second round.

The Dude said...

But still Aaron Brooks? He's not even better than David Carr!

Head Dude said...

And apparently for the last 30 minutes, the dude and i are the only ones following the Josh Watch.

Head Dude said...

So dude, how about the Supreme Court tearing up precedent the last two weeks?
I guess at least Clarence Thomas didn't declare that he's not part of the Judicial Branch.

Head Dude said...

Alando Tucker has Josh Howard written all over him -- second-to-last pick of first round, All-American, player of year in a power conference, his one weakness is perimter shooting, etc. I think it's a great pick for the Suns.

The Dude said...

on SCOTUS, you could probably see this coming with Kennedy emerging as the new middle vote - that's why winning 2008 is an absolute MUST!

The Dude said...

That's funny - I see Alando Tucker and see Chris Carrawell

Head Dude said...

Yeah, I suppose that could be right too.

The Dude said...

It's official! Slipping and sliding!! All along the draft with Josh!!

Head Dude said...

Welcome to the second round, Josh. What are the odds that "Carlos Boozer" are among the first 20 words out of his mouth when talking about his disappointment?

SportsGal said...

Lucky me. It's past 10:30 but I've still made it in time for McRoberts watch. Also, my darling husband wants to know if there's any Terps in the running this year.

Head Dude said...

Isn't DJ Strawberry a likely second-round pick?

Head Dude said...

Three more until McRoberts comes to Dallas...

Head Dude said...

Is Ric Bucher just making these "proposed trades" up to fill air time? These rumors are things you've never heard of before.

Head Dude said...

Two more...

SportsGal said...

Ah yes, seems like a nice kid that DJ. Over dinner just now I was recounting covering the 1999 draft. It's funny looking back and seeing how high Trajan and Avery went.

Head Dude said...

Uh oh...I really don't want the Mavs to take McRoberts. Give us the Chinese Magic!

Head Dude said...

Well at least based on the dude's mock draft, Fazekas is a solid pick -- i bet you'd rather have him than Aaron Brooks!

The Dude said...

It's not a good thing when someone describes your pick as reminding him of Steve Novak!

The Dude said...

Steve Francis was involved in a draft day trade today! I think I'll keep watching until McRoberts gets picked... I liked the rapid fire second round!

Head Dude said...

Yeah, I'd still have preferred Glen Davis.

Head Dude said...

Good job Josh -- you slip to the second round and a team with Oden and Aldridge in front of you for years to come.

The Dude said...

No. 37 to Portland. I'm guessing that wasn't in McRoberts's plans when he declared his eligibility

Head Dude said...

Well dudes, I think it's time to call it a night.

The Franchise said...

I'm back after some storm-related power problems! And I missed the McRoberts pick!

The Franchise said...

Whoa, Gabe Pruitt went to the Celtics? No wonder Undude didn't want to watch this draft...

The Franchise said...

Yes, the Lakers took Chinese Magic!

Head Dude said...

Damnit, I would've rather had Yue than Fazekas.

Head Dude said...

Wow, Chris Richard just went 41st with 6 points and 4 boards a game!

The Franchise said...

Apparently college stats are now officially irrelevant!

Head Dude said...

And he was a senior, so it's not like a freshman with potential

The Franchise said...

I can't believe he went before Taurean Green...

Head Dude said...

WOW! The Richardson for Wright rumor was accurate. What a terrible deal for Charlotte and a steal for Golden State.

The Franchise said...

Whoa! Jason Richardson traded to the Bobcats!

The Franchise said...

I disagree. That's a good trade for both teams because Charlotte needs someone, anyone, that already knows how to get it done to add to all the young players. And they needed a 2/3 more than they needed Wright.

The Dude said...

Only 10 more picks until the Rockets pick again!

Head Dude said...

J-Rich may have been the heart and soul of the Warriors, but he's also getting older and the core of the team had evolved beyond him. I think Wright fits in well.
Maybe Charlotte needed a veteran to go along with the youth, and they do have Gerald Wallace and Sean May, but still, I'm not sure.

Head Dude said...

Yeah, the more I think about this, the more I agree it's good for both. That's why Stephen A. shouldn't be on TV -- he makes the same snap reactions I do, but people actually pay attention to his.

The Franchise said...

The most depressing thing about this draft is that everyone agrees it's deep... but the Nuggets have no picks!

Head Dude said...

Don't you think this trade puts the Warriors back on the outside of the playoffs? Portland may contend right away, and though GS may be good in the long run, I don't know if Monta Ellis is ready to step up and replace J-Rich. I guess they expect to keep Matt Barnes.

The Franchise said...

Portland will be good but VERY young. I don't think they will take G-State's playoff spot...

The Franchise said...

Yes, the Bulls took Aaron Gray! Too bad they can't petition the league to start 6 PFs and Cs!

Head Dude said...

See - Stephen A. had the same kneejerk reaction I did.

The Franchise said...

Stephen A., tell us how you really feel about the J-Rich trade!

The Franchise said...

Maybe it's because I don't think Brandan Wright is as much of a sure thing as lots of people do... though I will say he's a nice fit on G-State.

I also think J-Rich is a better fit for Charlotte than Stephen A. does. Don't forget the East is weak - Smith himself called it a JV league!

Head Dude said...

Well, the Mavs take a Lithuanian, and I think that signals it's the time of the draft to head to sleep.
Goodnight dudes!

The Dude said...

Gotta be impressed that the LiveBlog is still going late into the second round!

The Franchise said...

By the way, until tonight I did not know there was pro basketball in Finland. Don't the Fins consider a basketball court a waste of a hockey rink?

The Dude said...

Good night dudes!

The Franchise said...

And a high character pick for the Bulls!

I'm in this LiveBlog until the end!

The Franchise said...

Nice, the Blazers got Green. Is it too late to jump on their bandwagon?
