America's Team returns?

At least in the ratings game...

Sunday's Dallas Cowboys-New England Patriots game was the highest-rated regular-season game on CBS since the network reacquired NFL rights in 1998, according to preliminary ratings released Monday.
The game scored an 18.5 rating in the 56 largest TV markets across the country. Final national ratings will be available Tuesday.
The previous record for a CBS game was a 16.9 on Dec. 6, 1998, when the Denver Broncos extended their unbeaten record to 13-0 by defeating the Kansas City Chiefs, 35-31.
Thus far this season, the Cowboys have played in the highest-rated game on CBS, NBC and ESPN. Their victory over the Bills on ESPN last Monday night was the highest-rated program on cable all season.
Dallas-Fort Worth produced the highest ratings for the Cowboys-Patriots, narrowly topping the Boston market, 37.0 to 36.5.
In Houston, the Cowboys-Patriots pulled a 17.5 rating in the second game of a doubleheader, topping the hometown Texans-Jacksonville Jaguars noon game, which earned a 16.7.

And while the 'Boys are always among the top sellers in jerseys and apparel, it is especially hard to find this season.

How great will it be if Dallas gets to the Super Bowl for a rematch with New England and finds its usual role reversed - the Cowboys will be the "good guys" America cheers for while the cheating, score-running-up Patriots will be the villains...

In related news, the numbers were also released in the Illegitimate Children ratings: Tom Brady topped Tony Romo, 1.0 to 0.0.

I was surprised when I read last week that Romo's jersey is the fifth best seller and #1 among kids. I didn't grasp the extent to which his popularity has grown. And you're right about the Cowboys being the "good guys" ... even with Owens.
The only question remaining is whether the era of good feelings amongst 3/4 of the dudes as to the Cowboys will be threatened by the Dude's getting overexcited about the Rockets in November -- if his jubilation over routing some Greek team last week is any sign, there could be trouble!

I can only hope the Rockets will snap the dude out of this funk. During the live blog he frequently refered to the Cowboys as "we" and one time went so far as to call them "our 'Boys."

This goes against everything I loved about the dude. I know the Texans aren't great, but this love affair has gone too far.

Dude, if you really are the dude, please come back!

Perhaps the Dude showed he still has it by text-messaging Undude when Jhonny Peralta just hit a three-run bomb.

I think The Dude supporting the Cowboys is OK, simply because after a brief glimmer of hope to start this season, it once again appears that rumors of a 2nd NFL team in Texas are just that...
