Fred Weighs In...

No offense to DudeSpin bloggers and their analysis of the Duke football coaching vacancy, but we need to hear from someone who has been in the trenches. Hell, this man practically invented the trenches. Fred Goldsmith shared his thoughts on Duke's woes with the News and Observer.

But he's not the only former coach making headlines. Steve Spurrier was seen on campus today shaking hands with Broadway Joe.

It's an interesting insight from Fred -- to put a stat (65%) with the number of players off limits to Duke. I would disagree with his comparison of Duke to Wake, UNC, and Georgia Tech academically. I'd be more interested in how Stanford, Northwestern, and Vandy have been competitive.

As to Spurrier, though there's no chance it's anything more than a friendly chat, I'd imagine Wallace Wade would sell out on season tickets within about 3 days if Spurrier came back on board.

I never thought I'd say this, but... Steve Spurrier, we need you!

One Stevie "Franchise" came back in rare form for the Rockets last night; here's hoping another Stevie comes home to glory-land!!

Me thinks Spurrier achieved more "glory" at Duke than Francis did in a Rockets' uniform.

Before this devolves into the normal tit-for-tat between Head Dude and Dude about their favorite b-ball teams. Here's something to consider.
Was Spurrier there to talk about the Duke job or was he there trying to work some sort of deal to bring Thaddeus Lewis to SC to run his offense???

Big Daddy, you have turned wonderful speculation into something truly terrifying and sinister.

If the next Duke head coach is named Mike Shula, I will most certainly not be backing Duke for long.

My first vote is for Paul Johnson. My second is for David Cutcliffe.
