Uh oh...

Is the Cutcliffe era of good feelings falling quickly on hard times? It's halftime in Clemson and the 17-0 score only tells part of the story. Duke is being outgained 268-39 and has 2 first downs to Clemson's 16. This against a team that has an identical record.

Let's hope things change in the second half. Otherwise a slide to a 4-8 record begins to approach in the rear-view mirror, and the 3-1 start is a distant memory.

What did he say at the beginning of the year, it's not about how you start but about how you finish. Dare I pose the unthinkable???? But has Duke backed off?

So it appears.
I'm not turning on Cutcliffe, because I think he'll recruit well and turn things around, but you look at this season on its own, and I suspect if the Rough Riders still ruled the roost, we'd still be about 4-6 right now.

are the dudes backing off?

Again, I have to ask.

1. Has Duke backed off?
2. If yes, then can one truly back off, if the team you support has already done so?

Betcha didn't think you'd get philosophical, existential type thoughts on Dudespin when you first created the site huh?

But assuming 1 is no, then no I don't think the dudes are backing off (though I can not speak for Head Dude)

Asking questions is not the same as backing off. Even the coach admitted it was the first game that just wasn't competitive from the start. We stayed with Georgia Tech for a half and Miami for three quarters, but not so much yesterday. Thad or no Thad, you want to see the program come far enough where that doesn't happen against anyone, much less Clemson.

this reminded me of a song that Undude and I heard on the radio when we went to Clemson during Airborne I to cover a game, set to the tune of the Romantics' "What I like about you."

"What I like about Duke;
Is that they're so easy to beat..."

Now Dude, that is BACKING OFF.
