Objects in the Mirror are Closer than they Appear

Look out Detroit -- we won't catch you in the standings, but Dallas sent a message last night in closing out the season series 3-1, that if we end up with the seventh seed, it may be a tougher first-round matchup than the Wings would prefer. And that's without us signing our 28-year old players to 12-year contracts!

well, the detroit economy is looking up - so the Red Wings can probably afford to lock up Federov for that long.

Eh, I'm not too concerned. Except for short spurts, the Stars have showed very few similarities to the team that played so well in scaring the Wings in last year's playoffs. The Sharks and Wings are the class of the Western Conference (and, along with Boston, the league) until further notice.

I think the more accurate statement after Detroit's recent slide is that San Jose and Boston are the class of the league. The Wings are closer to Calgary now than San Jose!
Of course, we all know the Sharks are just headed for another second-round exit.

I think they're ready to get back together and party like it's 1997.
