uh oh - technical difficulties at the outset!
Alright - transmission re-established, doesn't look like there's much rain now, but announcers have said it might rain later.... and Duke certainly knows how to handle that. Duke ball first!
Williams bobbles the kick and barely gets it out to the 15 - tough start for Airborne.
Lewis on a designed bootleg on 1st down, and Thad rumbles downfield for a 1st down. Announcers note that Boyette will be out today, not a huge loss here.
UVa drops 8 into coverage, and Thad still throws a strike to Williams for a 1st down.
another Duke fake-snap! haha! love it. Thad can't find anyone down field, tucks it and takes it to midfield, close to a 1st down.
quick count by Thad, and he sneaks it for the easy first down; and a UVa defensive holding gives Airborne another 1st down.
Conner Vernon hauls in another for a 1st down, but uh oh -the Ultimate Warrior is shaken up on the play, clutching his belly.. Not sure what the injury is.
Duke pulls one out of the trick play book, Austin Kelly on the fake end around, throws deep, coverage was there, incomplete. A Hollingsworth run trucks it to the 27, sets up Duke's 1st 3rd and long.
The protection breaks down, and Thad does well to get back out to the 26, and Duke sets up for a FG attempt, Snyderwide's 43 yarder is right through there... Wow!

That should be Snyderwine, not Snyderwide - that's an appropriate nickname for prior Duke kickers.
I hope the injury to Vernon isn't serious - he has been a great addition to Duke this season.

Sewell's 3d down pass is dropped by the TE over the middle, who might have heard footsteps from the safety. And UVa goes 3 and out.
and Williams misjudges the return, and loses about 10 yards on the return - my pet peeve, returners running backwards thinking they can outrun the defense.
But nonetheless, the Duke defenses catches on break on UVa's 1st drive - and takes advantage of the dropped pass to pick up a quick three and out.
Thad on the rollout, finds no one open, tucks it in and picks up about 3 yards.
Vernon is back in the game - good to see.
Nice stat grab - Duke's offense - 5th in the nation, 1st in the ACC. And well time, THad hits Austin Kelly wide open on a skinny post - and Kelly rumbles down the field for a 1st down, and about 30 more yards.
Lewis's QB draw sets up another 2nd down and manageable distance.
A short screen to Scott sets up a 3rd and short at the 38, probably 2 down territory here. Haha! Lewis looks to the sidelines, and suddenly! a direct snap to Scott, and he picks up 4 for the 1st down.
The Franchise begged for the snap on the fake last week, and COach Cut listened! Desmond Scott carries on 1st and 2nd down to set up a 3rd and one. Another sneak?

I hope Duke doesn't look back on the last FG as a waste opportunity, they were cruising down the field until they got inside the 15.
Blasted, UVa returns it out to near midfield. After dominating the game so far, Duke's a 50 yard drive away from trailing.
UVa almost hits a homer on 1st down as Sewell overthrows Darrel Green's son, who had beaten his cover man. And! a tipped pass on 3d down lands in the hands of Leon Wright, who sees the grass in front of him and takes it back to the UVa 20!
On 1st down, Lewis finds Huffman wide open! and Brett drops it... oy vay!
Hollinsworth on the handoff in the shotgun, and gets just 2 to set up another 3rd down play.
Lewis overthrows his man on the dump off; HOWEVER! Big roughing the passer penalty on UVa gives Duke new life - 1st down and 10 at the 11!
Strike that - 1st and goal! and Hollingsworth takes it to the 6 on 1st down.
Lewis on the playaction, and the UVa defensive end was not fooled! sacks Lewis in the backfield. 3d and goal from the 16.
Lewis is sacked again on 3rd down, and Snyderwine will have to come through again so as not the squander a golden opportunity - and the kick attempt will have to wait until the 2nd quarter.
and Snyderwine splits the uprights - and gives Duke a 9-0 lead

Looks like the early story is Duke should be up more than 6-0.
UVa starts on their own 29. Straight handoff nets UVa its first 1st down of the game - 11 yard gain.
Sewell is hammered as he throws up a lame duck, so lame that the Duke defender runs into the intended receiver, giving UVa a 1st down on the pass interference.
Sewell walks off under his own power - looks like he'll be back.
Verica in at quarterback for UVa, 3 straight whistles before snaps disrupts the flow. 2 to reset the game block, 1 on a false start by UVa. 1st and 15.
Verica's flare in the backfield is dropped - would not have been a big gain in any event.
and Jackson takes it for 15 yards on 2nd down to get the 1st down. Yes, HD, Duke should be up by more than 9-0

And Verica hits Chris Burd between the numbers over the middle for a huge pick-up to the Duke 11.
Matt Daniels breaks up a jumpball on 1st down, saving a TD.
Verica has plenty of time on 2nd down - but the coverage is there, and he throws it away to set up a third and 10.
A blitz hurries the throw from Verica - and now UVa must kick, a 33 yard attempt.
The kick is straight through, and cuts the Duke lead to 9-3.
WR screen to Varner on 1st down gets nothing - a rare missteps on the WR screen.
Thad is pressured again on 3rd down, and a rare 3 and out for the Duke offense - Duke needs to hold its blocks a little better.
Verica remains in at quarterback for the Hoos, and throws it away on 1st down. I'm a bit surprised they're not utilizing the ground game a bit more.
Just as I say that, a handoff from the gun gets UVA a gain of 6.
Verica rolls to his left, finds no one and throws it away on 3rd down - a good series for the Duke D.
Williams fair catches at the 9 - this may turn into a game of field possession here. But I'm thinking Coach Cut has a couple of adjustments in mind.

From midfield, Duke punts on 4th and 2 (potential go for it situation there). A poor punt however gives UVa decent field position at the 20.
A run and a short pass sets up a third and two, which is picked up on a quick out.
UVa goes back the ground (they should call more run plays than pass plays based on the results so far) and sets up a 2nd and short, which is picked up on another run to the right.
Vinny Rey makes two big tackles on 1st and 2nd down to bring up a third and long from midfield for the Hoos
After a poor punt, big chance for Duke to build on their lead to close out the half.
pressure forces a leak to the RB, and he is brought down by Matt Daniels - good ball pursuit so far.
A flubbed punt will give Duke great field position beyond their own 30 yard line - and the ESPN feed cuts out before the ref stopped marching!
a run and a short Thad pass sets up a 3d and short, Thad goes back to Brett Huffman on a drag route, and huffman churns those legs for a big pickup.
Lewis is sacked again by Nate Collins on a 1st down dropback. The line is not giving Thad much time.
2nd and 17 with 50 seconds left, and Duke needs some solid pickups to set up Snyderwine for another FG.
Although Thad got 8 on a flare on 2nd down, he had to hurry his throw on 3rd down and the ball falls incomplete. Now UVa gets the ball at their own 16 and 33 seconds left. Sewell is back out on the field, i'm guessing for a kneeldown.
Now Coach Cut will have his mettle tested - how will he get the offense back on track?

we're back for the 2nd half - and UVa picks up a big first down on a 3rd and 4 as Sewell hangs in the pocket and finds a received on a cross route for a big gain!
Jackson brought down after a short gain - 2nd and long.
Jackson picks a hole after nearly bring brought down in the backfield and gets the ball all the way down to the Duke 12 - uh oh.
a completion on a slant gets the ball down to the 1 - 1st and goal - and Sewell bangs it in for the touchdown, 9-9 pending the PAT. Duke's failure to capitalize may come back to haunt them.
The PAT is good - and Duke trails for the 1st time in 3 games.

Lewis has time, finds Vernon, flag on the play (defensive holding), big play for Duke.

Duke hands it off to Scott from the I formation, and that gets 3 yards. Rare straight run there. Lewis back to the shotgun, the look over to the sidelines, Lewis sacked in the backfield by a linebacker. The lack of protection has really hampered Duke's offense all day.
3rd and 12, Thad doesn't like what he sees, and will call a time out.
Duke gets away with a holding in the backfield, and Lewis nearly throws a pick. UVa's offense will get back in the saddle.
UVa keeps it on the ground on 1st and 2nd down to move the chains again.
Two more runs sets up a 3rd and 3 for the Hoos.
Vince Oghobaase with a huge sack on 3rd down, and UVA is forced to punt!
Duke takes over just outside their own 30.
Vernon makes a great catch over the middle while his facemask is being grabbed and thrown off. gathers his bearings, signals first down, and gets a HORRIBLE flag thrown against him for unsportsmanlike conduct. Shades of Chris Combs there.
Wow - THad evades pressure, finds Kelly open, and Kelly drops the pass - UGH! a couple of huge negative turns for Duke.
An offensive holding penalty on 1st down traps the Hoos in a 1st and 20 predicament after Duke punts.
Sewell goes deep, challenges Leon Wright - and every Duke fan knows that challenge won't end well for the Hoos - 3rd and 17.
The Hoos go for a screen that's smelled out by Duke - a punt upcoming on 4th and 17.
Duke will get the ball at their own 38 - a big opportunity here with less than 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.
Thad on the ??option?? on 1st and 10, keeps it and gets 2.
Wow - a fake WR screen, and Lewis goes deep to Varner and fits it in there perfectly, Duke is in FG territory at the UVA 25. Boyette makes a cameo in the game, dives over a pile and gets 5 yards.
Thad goes to the option again, but uh oh, illegal procedure penalty on Duke
And we go to the 4th quarter - Duke's ball at the UVa 27, 2nd and 10, down 1.
THad throws to the outside shoulder of Huffman downfield for a huge 1st down at the 10. Huffman has gotten his mitts around every ball since his drop early.
Boyette trucks up the middle for 3, 2nd and goal from the 7.
Lewis playaction, but overthrows Huffman on 2nd down, brings another big 3rd down.
Lewis has time, pressured late, throws out of the back of the end zone - great coverage by UVa at the goal line. Snyderwine on for the go-ahead FG attempt - and it splits the uprights, Duke leads 12-10. Oh, the days when we would have killed for 4 FGs in a game, now we only lament that they weren't TDs.
Snyderwine shanks the ball out of bounds at an inopportune time - gives UVa great field position at their 40. Ugh!
On 2nd down, UVA finds their TE - Friedman. THis is Joel's dream game.

UVa picks up 6 yards on 3rd down, they will surely go for it here on a 4th and ... let's wait for the measurement here... 30 inches.

double TE, single set back, 2 wide. Play action, bootleg, and the TE is wide open downfield to the Duke 20... Big conversion for Virginia.
Ugh - Big conversion for UVa, now we will have to hope for a hold here.
And dang it - Sewell finds his TE over the middle for a touchdown - a huge turn of events in this game.
Duke now on a must-score drive here, starting at the 23.

Lewis on the rollout, finds Varner, the UVa corner gambles and misses, and Varner streaks down the sideline all the way to the UVa 4!! Now here's the rub again - can Duke punch it in? Not by the looks of the 1st down play - Boyette gets stuffed in the backfield.

Lewis fires in the back of the end zone, and the ball is picked off on a great play by the Hoos' Minnefield... Needless to say, a punch in the gut for Duke - who must now hold and drive.
Minnifield outfought Kelly for the ball there - 2nd huge ball wrestling match that Duke lost this season.
The Cavs run on 1st and 2nd down, picks up about a yard and a half total - now third and 8.
Sewell nearly gets pinned back inside his own 5, somehow escapes and gets back across the line of scrimmage and falls well short of the 1st time, and UVa must punt it back to Duke.
well, Duke ball at their own 34 - with perhaps last chance to put up 6. Can Thad do it... wow.. what a game!
A run for Hollingsworth on 1st down - and he picks up 2.

Duke on an obvious go for 2 situation here up by 1!! unreal!! Lewis rolls out, find Kelly open, and Thad with his first misfire of the afternoon, throwing behind Kelly - that could be costly.

This is hilarious Huffman false starts with 20 seconds on the playoff - EVERYONE in the stadium knew that Duke wasn't snapping with 20 ticks on the clock.
Hollingsworth carries it for 5 - down to 1:50 left. 3rd and 10.
Duke will run it to the 1 second mark on the play clock and call a TO with 1:15. They are on the 29 - wonder what they will do here? I would say put it in THad's hands.
I LOVE IT. I have the Fla-GA game on in the other room and just as I walk in they cut to highlight of the Duke game showing the fumble and score.
